Navy confirms that media lied about USS John McCain and President Trump.

They just can't help themselves can they?

The media has reached a point to where their default position when it comes to President Trump is... LIE!

I am actually kind of surprised that this comes from the Wall Street Journal but basically they spread a false claim heard from someone that the White House wanted the USS John McCain “out of sight” for when the President made his visit. They also claim that this was per President Trump’s request.

They also reported that a tarp was used to cover the ships name during the presidents visit.

The reactions from the media and others were swift.

You would think they had learned their lesson by now about jumping to conclusions and running unsubstantiated claims as fact.

Apparently that is not the case or they simply have given up on any semblance of ethical journalism in favor of straight up political propaganda.

Personally as a writer myself I wish it was the former but believe it to be the latter. Their goal is to spread disinformation about everything they possibly can which is again what surprised me that this seems to have originated with the Wall Street Journal.

So was this claim true?

Of course its not true, we are talking about the great "main stream propaganda machine" here.

Print it first and worry about if its true later. You know, the exact opposite of ethical journalism.

The pictures used according to the Navy (and they would know) are from Friday, not Saturday during President Trump's visit.

This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Pacific Fleet.

“We didn’t do anything to obstruct the name of the ship. The Wall Street Journal piece refers to a photo of a tarp covering the ship, that photo was taken Friday, May 24, the tarp was removed the following day”

“All ships remained in normal configuration during the President’s visit” CDR Nate Christensen said.

But that was not the only false claim either. Another claim is that the White House Military Office emailed lower-level US Navy officials about keeping the ship completely out of view during the visit. This claim was reported by both the WSJ and CNN citing unnamed government officials of course.

However,  the accuracy of the core claim contained in these reports nor the emails that supposedly came from officials has been verified . We have not seen the email correspondence in question so.

We are supposed to just take their word for it I guess.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that acting defense secretary Patrick Shanahan knew of the White House’s concerns and approved military officials’ efforts to obscure the name.

However, a spokesman for Shanahan's office while speaking to reporters Thursday in Indonesia, denied that account in its entirety.

“What I read this morning was the first I heard about it,” he said.

Lt. Col. Joseph Buccino, US army, who is a spokesman for defense secretary Patrick Shanahan, said the defense secretary “was not aware of the directive to move the USS John S. McCain, nor was he aware of the concern precipitating the directive.”

On Thursday morning, Patrick Shanahan himself told reporters, “in terms of ship movements, the only ships I’ve moved is the USS Abraham Lincoln,”  referring to the recent US military moves to pressure Iran.

Also from the Wall Street Journal it was reported that a barge had been moved into place so as to obscure the name of the ship. This was also not true, according to one official: “the barge had been there regularly. At one angle, you might not have seen the ship’s name, but the name was visible at all times.”

This was all also confirmed by Cmdr. Clay Doss, a spokesman for the 7th Fleet.

As well as the US Navy’s chief of information, Rear Adm. Charlie Brown, who tweeted Wednesday night that the name had been visible at all times.

“The name of USS John S. McCain was not obscured during the POTUS visit to Yokosuka on Memorial Day,” Brown said in a tweet. “The Navy is proud of that ship, its crew, its namesake and its heritage.”

President Trump also Tweeted his comment on Wednesday night.

While speaking to reporters on Thursday morning at the White House, President Trump said that although he “is not a big fan” of McCain, he wouldn’t have supported moving the ship, obstructing it or covering the name.

He later Tweeted the following.

So there it is in a nut shell, another knee jerk reaction from the mainstream propaganda machine trying to lie about anything they can to try and hurt this president.

Why? Because he is turning this around making America great again. Apparently they don't like or want that.

“Just because something isn't a lie does not mean that it isn't deceptive. A liar knows that he is a liar, but one who speaks mere portions of truth in order to deceive is a craftsman of destruction.”  ― Criss Jami
