I just saw on the news that the cases of covid-19 in the U.S. stand at nearly 400 people. I decided to look at some numbers and do some comparisons.
400 people out of 327,000,000 are 0.0001223242% of the total population. Deaths stand at 19 the last I heard or 0.0000058104% of the total population.
That is NOTHING in the big picture man. It matters to those infected of course but these are miniscule numbers compared to the whole. Miniscule compared to the statistics of the common Flu as well.
Cases of Covid-19 worldwide stand at 103,168 people. We round up to 8 billion people (7.8 Billion) in the world and we come up with 0.0012896% of the world population who have contracted the covid-19 virus. 3,254 deaths are estimated or 0.000995107% of the total world population. Again, that is NOTHING in the big picture. The common flu causes up to 5 million cases of severe illness worldwide and kills up to 650,000 people or 0.008125% of the world population every year, according to the World Health Organization.
During the 2019-2020 flu season, the U.S. saw between 34,000,000 – 49,000,000 people infected, about 16,000 or 0.0048929664% of the population have died from the flu this season. According to the CDC. Just imagine what the numbers of infected and deaths from the flu would be if we did not have a vaccine. (Edited)
We will average to 40,000,000 people infected in the U.S. which comes out to be 12.2324159021% of the 327,000,000 total population. 12.0% versus 0.0001223242% is not even in the same ballpark guys.
I know, I know, people will try to say that the flu has had longer to spread than covid-19 but that is really not true either.
Flu season in the U.S. is typically considered to be between October and February with the peak being between December and February. Meaning that is the time period when we see the most infections.
Covid-19 showed up in China During the month of December 2019 so the flu and covid-19 have essentially shared the same time frame for infections with a vastly different amount of people impacted.
Up to 49,000,000 cases of the Flu and 400 cases of covid-19 during a comparable time period.
That means that sticking with a 40,000,000 average, Covid-19 infections in the U.S. are 0.001% of the infections caused by the common Flu virus.
Granted, covid-19 is still spreading while flu season is on the wane but come on man.
Exactly what is everyone freaking out about?
I would say we do not have anything to freak out about until Covid-19 reaches the same infection numbers as the common flu within the same time frame.
It is not even close!
This is what POTUS was talking about when he said this was a hoax. Not the virus itself, but the political fear campaign that has been birthed and nurtured by the left and the MSM.
We deal with far more infections and far more deaths from the common flu EVERY YEAR then we are seeing with Covid-19 thus far.
Why are people not freaking out about that every year if they are freaking out over what is so far a very low risk to them?
Short answer, the common flu is familiar, we are accustomed to it thinning our herd out every year so we just take it for granted that over half a million of our fellow humans will be killed by it every year. We do not consciously think this, it has been programmed into our subconscious by the very fact that it IS something we deal with year in and year out.
It is scary now because as of yet we have no vaccine for covid-19. New things always scare us but it is important to remember that even the common cold is included in the Coronavirus family. Covid-19 is not a new virus, not a new disease, it is a new strain of a virus that we have known about since the 1960s. That gives us a leg up on creating that vaccine because we already have data on the virus family. They have already identified the unique properties of covid-19 so they are already over half way there.
The left and the MSM have taken this natural fear and used it to terrify a large portion of the U.S. population through propaganda and blatant fearmongering to score political points and hurt the President.
Doesn't mean we have to fall for it though does it y'all?
Think for yourself. Be careful and take precautions to protect yourself and your families just like we do for the yearly common flu. But man, we need to get the hell off of that panic button because at the current time, we have nothing to be panicking about.
"When we think about the relative danger of this new coronavirus and influenza, there’s just no comparison, Coronavirus will be a blip on the horizon in comparison. The risk is trivial." ~Dr. William Schaffner, professor of preventive medicine and health policy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center
"Using fear as a tool to manipulate people into going where those in power wish them to is as old as humanity itself. We call it tyranny." ~The Ugly Truth Project
